According to Greek mythology, Euterpe (pictured right) was one of the nine muses. She was in charge of music and lyric poetry and her name translates to “giver of much delight.” Euterpe allegedly invented the double flute, which she is shown holding. I decided to name my website in honor of Euterpe because as a music librarian and educator, I value many of her qualities and characteristics. Her work was driven by the joy that a love of music brings. And her double flute creation clearly shows her ingenuity and playful spirit.
